The basic condition to be able to sing another persons song, is the ability to interpret the lyrics on the bases of ones own experiance and thats excatly what Duvall do and he do it good!

I saw them in Brixton! Brilliant! Duvall is doing a great job and why wouldnt he be able to sing this song. That means that no person should be alowed to sing a song that he didnt write, or?
A text is universial. It is the recognizeability that makes us listen to a certain kind of music – our sense to be a part a song, So why shouldnt Duvall who is an excellent singer/songwriter be able to sing Laynes songs?

Some of yous are CRAZY. I love Layne A LOT! & When i first heard about them hirind a new singer i was pissed… But Ive heard james hetfield, and Panteras lead singer & a bunch of others sing with AIC. & by far, this guy has the closest range to layne of anyone. Hes a suitable replacement for AIC’s songs. RIP Layne Staley. I wish you never left :*(

Jerry did turn to lead vocals. If you listen to the album its clear that DuVall is not a replacement. Will sings Layne’s parts in old songs, but Jerry really did assume the position of “lead vocals”.

Layne’s dead. We all know that. DuVall is a great singer, and this is a very hard song to sing. Anyone with taste can appreciate the fact that he doesn’t just try to sound like Layne. He brings his own sound to the song. Whether you like it or not? That’s your opinion.

dude, they just started touring months ago. i do like the new stuff though. i’m listening to it right now. “your decision” is good, and will does a good job on “last of my kind” but they didn’t let him sing lead on much of the record.
