[Lyrics]

Journey back to the dark side, back into the womb
Back to where the spirits move like vapor from the tomb
The center of the cyclone, blowing out the sun
Break the shackles of your union to the light

I might’ve had a brother
As I was born, they dragged him under
To the other side of twilight
He’s waiting for me now

Nativity was lost on me
I didn’t ask, I couldn’t see
What created me?
What and where and how?

Welcome home – it’s been too long, we’ve missed you
Welcome home – we’ve opened up the gates
Welcome home – to your brothers and sisters
Welcome home – to an accident of birth

Feel our bodies breathing as you try to stop believing
There’s nothing you can do about your shadows
You can fight us, you are like us
And your body will betray you
Lay down and die like all the others

Where are the angels and their wings of freedom?
Jesus had his day off when they pulled you through…

Welcome home – it’s been too long, we’ve missed you
Welcome home – we’ve opened up the gates
Welcome home – to your brothers and sisters
Welcome home – to an accident of birth
…to an accident of birth

Vision’s growing dim as the daylight fades away
A spinning, twisting black hole – it’s your dying day

Welcome home – it’s been too long, we’ve missed you
Welcome home – we’ve opened up the gates
Welcome home – to your brothers and sisters
Welcome home – to an accident of birth

Welcome home – it’s been too long, we’ve missed you
Welcome home – we’ve opened up the gates
Welcome home – to your brothers and sisters
Welcome home – to an accident of birth
……………………………
”Accident of Birth” is a song from Bruce Dickinson’s solo album, Accident of Birth 1997.

About this song Dickinson explained: “‘Accident of Birth’ is about a family from Hell. Except they’re in and one of them has accidentally been born, and they want him back and he doesn’t want to go. For all the same reasons that you wouldn’t want to go back to your family if they’re a pain in the ass, he doesn’t want to go back to his family. Ok, so they’re in Hell, that makes a little difference too.”

The album, Accident of Birth is a heavy metal album released in 1997 by Bruce Dickinson.
This is the second album made in collaboration with guitarist/producer Roy Z and is therefore much different from Bruce’s previous Skunkworks album. It marks Bruce’s return to his more melodic style of singing. He was also assisted by another former Iron Maiden member Adrian Smith and the two would later return to the band in early 1999. Thanks to the slightly bigger success of this album, Bruce would work with Roy Z in the future on his solo albums (including his latest, Tyranny of Souls).
Around the time he was creating the album, Bruce Dickinson’s mother told him that he was the result of a “failed abortion.” The album title and the title track are a reference to this revelation: Bruce was a birth that shouldn’t have been. It is not clear whether it was an actual botched abortion or that his mother was expressing regret at not having aborted her pregnancy.

The cover art was done by Derek Riggs, best known for being the creator of Iron Maiden’s mascot Eddie and the artwork on all Iron Maiden albums/singles/posters/tour brochures throughout 1980-1990. (Source : Wikipedia)

Most of the songs on the album featured Roy Z on guitar. His real name is Roy Romeriz but, in his words, “back in the ’80s it wasn’t really all that cool to have an ethnic last name, so I flipped it around and it became ‘Zerimar.’ Eventually, people just started abbreviating it for convenience sake’s and called me ‘Z,’ and it stuck.” However, the song “Ghost of Cain” (which was featured on the single) had Adrian Smith on guitar. Smith was the guitarist for Iron Maiden from 1980-1990 until leaving for his solo project, ASAP (Adrian Smith And Project). “Ghost of the Navigator” was the name of a song on Brave New World, the first Maiden album released after Dickinson rejoined the band.

Bruce Dickinson, about the album: “The truth is never clear… until it clobbers you over the head. That’s what happened when I decided to make the ultimate metal record. My favorite stuff, legends, sci-fi, fairy stories, dark deeds of the occult, set to slamming riffs, soaring vocals and great tunes.”

[Lyrics]

The white man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?

Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack

Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives

Soldiers blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing the game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives
……………………………………………….
”Run To The Hills” is a song from Iron Maiden’s album,The Number Of The Beast, and it was released in 1982.

”This song is about the American Indians. It’s written from both sides of the picture. The first part is from the side of the Indians. The second part is from the side of the soldiers. I wanted to try and get the feeling of galloping horses. But when you play this one, be careful not to let it run away with you.” (Steve Harris)

Perhaps Maiden’s most publicly recognisable song and their first big hit single, ‘Run To The Hills’ describes the Indian wars of the American west, first from the Indian’s perspective and then from the white man’s perspective. It is a fast-tempo song with a drum beat that is reminiscent of gallopping horses. Although it is a Maiden classic, it is a bit too short. Nevertheless, the song was critical in opening the way for Maiden’s invasion of America.

In the lyrics, the sentence “the only good Indians are tame” probably refers to the infamous American saying “The only good Indian is a dead Indian”. This mindless and absurd proverb is said to stem from the following anecdote that took place in January 1869, at old Fort Cobb, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, shortly after Custer’s fight with Black Kettle’s band of Cheyennes: Old Toch-a-way (Turtle Dove), a chief of the Comanches, on being introduced to General Philip Sheridan (18311888), desired to impress the white man and managed to say in English “Me, Toch-a-way; me good Injun.” The General, a known bigot and Indian hater, just smiled and answered: “The only good Indians I ever saw were dead.”. Although Sheridan later denied having made such a statement, the sentence became quickly a saying that is still used nowadays, although the Indians that have not been physically killed now live in reservations where alcoholism caused mainly by unemployment and squalor contribute to kill an already dying culture. Who said that America was “the land of the free and home of the brave”?

Kill for gain or shoot to maim but we don’t need a reason
The Golden Goose is on the loose and never out of season
Blackened pride still burns inside this shell of bloody treason
Here’s my gun for a barrel of fun for the love of living death

The killer’s breed or the demon’s seed
The glamour, the fortune, the pain
Go to war again, blood is freedom’s stain
But don’t you pray for my soul anymore

2 minutes to midnight, the hands that threaten doom
2 minutes to midnight, to kill the unborn in the womb

The blind men shout let the creatures out, we’ll show the unbelievers
The napalm screams of human flames, of a prime-time Belsen feast… YEAH!
As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies

The killer’s breed or the demon’s seed
The glamour, the fortune, the pain
Go to war again, blood is freedom’s stain
But don’t you pray for my soul anymore

2 minutes to midnight…

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song
To the tune of starving millions, to make a better kind of gun

The killer’s breed or the demon’s seed
The glamour, the fortune, the pain
Go to war again, blood is freedom’s stain
But don’t you pray for my soul anymore

2 minutes to midnight…

Midnight… midnight… it’s all night
Midnight… midnight… all night!
…………………………………
”2 Minutes To Midnight” is a song from Iron Maiden’s album,Powerslave, and it was released in 1984.

The title of the song refers to the Doomsday Clock, one of the most chilling and best known symbols of the nuclear age, representing how close humanity is to the brink of nuclear holocaust (midnight). The clock reached 2 minutes to midnight in September 1953, after the Soviets successfully detonated an awesomely powerful thermonuclear device. Today the clock stands at 7 minutes to midnight after little progress was made on global nuclear disarmament. In 2002, the United States rejected a series of arms control treaties and announced it will withdraw from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. Moreover, terrorists seek to acquire and use nuclear and biological weapons. Bad news for mankind indeed!”

”About the politics of war and destruction, ‘2 Minutes To Midnight’ makes a meaningful statement about the morality of warmongers and politicians.

As the madmen play on words
And make us all dance to their song
To the tune of starving millions
To make a better kind of gun

Tattooed boys with expensive toys
Living in a bubble of sin
Money can buy you most of anything
Fix your nose or the mess you’re in

Front page news, you can share your views
With a population (that) wants to be like you
Out on the strip, out on the tiles
Same old greed behind the p.r. smiles

You and all your entourage – to me you’re all the same
You and all your entourage – playing foolish games

I don’t want your big city shining
I don’t want your silver lining
I don’t wanna be a tattooed millionaire (x2)

He’s got a wife – she ain’t no brain child
Ex-mud queen of miami
In his stretch cadillac he keeps her in the back
With his cd player and his bottle of jack

L.a. dude, l.a. attitude
Laid back, selfish, and getting fat
Bodyguards, stars, gold credit cards
Using each other – running for cover

”Tattooed Millionaire”is a song from Bruce Dickinson’s debut solo album, Tattooed Millionaire. It was released in October, 1990.

” ‘Tattooed Millionaire’ is a hard rock album released in 1990 by Bruce Dickinson. It is his first solo album. The album project began when Dickinson was asked to record a song for the fifth Nightmare on Elm Street movie, which became the song called “Bring your Daughter…to the Slaughter”. Collaborating with future Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers, Dickinson began to make a solo album which was fundamentally different from his works with Iron Maiden, sounding much more rock-oriented. “Bring your Daughter…” was not included on the original album but Iron Maiden later recorded a different version that was included on their 1990 album No Prayer for the Dying, which coincidentally became the band’s only number one single to date. The introduction to the song “No Lies” is also reminiscent of Iron Maiden’s version of “Bring your Daughter…to the Slaughter”. All songs written and composed by Bruce Dickinson and Janick Gers, except where noted. ”(Source:The Bruce Dickinson Wellbeng Network)

Into the Abyss I’ll fall the eye of Horus
Into the eyes of the night watching me go
Green is the cat’s eye that glows in this temple
Enter the risen Osiris risen again

Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave
I don’t wanna die, I’m a God, why can’t I live on?
When the Life-Giver dies, all around is laid waste
And in my last hour I’m a slave to the power of Death

When I was living this lie, fear was my game
People would worship and fall, drop to their knees
So bring me the blood and red wine for the one to succeed me
For he is a man and a God and He will die too

Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave
I don’t wanna die, I’m a God, why can’t I live on?
When the Life-Giver dies, all around is laid waste
And in my last hour I’m a slave to the power of Death

Now I am cold but a ghost lives in my veins
Silent the terror that reigned marbled in stone
A shell of a man God preserved for a thousand ages
But open the gates of my I will strike from the grave

Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave
I don’t wanna die, I’m a God, why can’t I live on?
When the Life-Giver dies, all around is laid waste
And in my last hour I’m a slave to the power of Death

Slave to the Power of Death…
Slave to the Power of Death…
…………………………….
”Powerslave” is a song from Iron Maiden’s album,Powerslave, and it was released in 1984,and, it is a song about a dying Egyptian Pharaoh lamenting on the limits of his power.

For too long now
There were secrets in my mind
For too long now
There were things I should have said
In the darkness
I was stumbling for the door
To find a reason
To find the time, the place, the hour

Waiting for the winter sun
And the cold light of day
The misty ghost of childhood fears
The pressure is building
And I can’t stay away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave
Let it wash over me
To face the fear
I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me

Where I was
I had wings that couldn’t fly
Where I was
I had tears I couldn’t cry

My emotions
Frozen in an icy lake
I couldn’t feel them
Until the ice began to break

I have no power over this
You know I’m afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving
I’m slipping away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave
Let it wash over me
To face the fear
I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me

Slowly I awake
Slowly I rise
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving
I’m slipping away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave
Let it wash over me
To face the fear
I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me…

”Tears Of The Dragon” is a song from Bruce Dickinson’s second solo album, Balls to Picasso, and it was released in 1994.

”Balls to Picasso” is a Hard rock album released in 1994 and is the second effort in Bruce Dickinson’s solo career. The ballad “Tears of the Dragon” stayed for many months on top the of charts in countries like Brazil where Dickinson has a large fanbase.
This record marked the beginning of Dickinson’s collaborations with Roy Z, who would work on many of Dickinson’s later albums including Accident of Birth, The Chemical Wedding and Tyranny of Souls. Stylistically it departs from Tattooed Millionaire but is still more traditional-sounding than the follow-up album Skunkworks released in 1996. Later, Dickinson said that he and Roy Z were talked into making the album less heavy than it should have been. (Source: Wikipedia)

Slowly bleeding, watch the vortex feeding
Like a swirling vulture on your face

Every hour the unseen rays devour
Your screaming eyes cry out but they are blind

Father, forgive me my sins
Give me the nails, I’ll hammer them in

The road to is full of good intentions
Say farewell, we may never meet again
The road to is full of good intentions
Down the left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

Brave new world of secret fantasy
That hovers just beyond your bloody grasp

Close enough to thrill, the danger of the kill
Price for failure of your will

Father, forgive us our sins
‘Cause we’re all the junkies who never can win

The road to is full of good intentions
Say farewell, we may never meet again
The road to is full of good intentions
Down the left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

Father, forgive me my sins
Give me the nails, I’ll hammer them in

The road to is full of good intentions
Parody of hope is the one that I must kill
We all have to live with our family inventions
Down the left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

The road to is full of good intentions
Say farewell, we may never meet again
The road to is full of good intentions
Down the left-hand highway with no sinister regrets
………………………………….
”Road To Hell” is a song from Bruce Dickinson’s solo album, Accident of Birth 1997.
